The Boating Life

Who knew we would be buying a brand new boat.  Well, I guess you have to expect that when you’re moving into a lake community.

Having the boat has been such a blessing because it has provided us with countless hours of quality family time NOT positioned in front of the TV.

Austin LOVES sitting with Daddy at the wheel & cries when it is time to go home.

& Luke will happily sit back and let the motions rock him to sleep.

The life jackets are MANDATORY until they are 14 years old.  Poor Lukie looks smooshed, but happy.

Justin is over the moon and back about this boat & I am as well.  It is PERFECT for our family.

My Auntie came and visited us this past week and we had a WONDERFUL time.  I am so glad we got to take her AND my grandparents out on the lake.

I am a little disappointed that I didn’t manage to snap any pictures of our time on the lake with my dad, Justin’s brother, & his girlfriend.  It was a blast!  Justin & Carl managed to water ski and wakeboard.  I will tackle that little adventure when there are less people on the lake.  My dad LOVED riding on the boat and driving it.  I don’t think I’ve seen him smile so much in a while.  It was priceless and I am so happy to have had some bonding time with him.

We hope to log more hours on the lake soon.  We are grateful for the perfect weather.

BLOG SHARE: Indoor Activities for Fall

Hi Everyone,

I have another blog post to share from Upward Onward.  This one is a list of indoor activities that you can do during those days when going outside seems like a less than favorable idea.  The list includes fun with food, indoor sport-like games, entertainment, and crafts.  These are all frugal mommy ideas that will cost little to no money and very minimal effort.  YIPPEE!  Start planning your list of go-to indoor activities for when your kids are driving your batty!

Upward Onward: Finding Indoor Activities for Kids This Fall

Happy FOUR months, little dude.

Dearest Lukie,

You are FOUR months old.  I cannot believe how fast time is flying.  It seems like time went so slow with Austin and now I’m begging for it to slow down with you.

You are an awesome baby that is now sleeping though the night + gaining weight like a champ.  You now sleep in your OWN crib and made the transition from our co-sleeper to your bed surprisingly well.  I think I had a more difficult time letting go than you.

Your well-baby check up is tomorrow and I cannot wait to see how big you’ve gotten.  Your rolls are delicious + adorable.  It is definitely a change from your skinny mini brother.

I love all the facial expression you make + how you are always happy and smiling.  Not a care in the world.

You love life and enjoy being included in ANYTHING that is going on {heaven forbid we forget to include you}.

You have found your hands and love to put them in your mouth.

Your giggles are the BEST.  I love making you laugh {which is easy to do} by tickling your neck.

Big brother LOVES you bunches and enjoys stealing your binkie as well.  He gives you kisses and hugs and likes to point out your eyes, ears, and mouth.  I know you two will have lots of fun together.

You LOVE your GiGi + will always crack a smile for her.  You also enjoy your exercises with her.  Everyone can tell that she is your favorite.

Tummy time is not your favorite time, but you’re getting the hang of it.  You have not rolled over yet + secretly {I guess it’s not so secret now} I attribute that to your chunky booty.  You can sit up with the boppy behind you, but your cloth diapers make it hard to stay up.

Speaking of cloth diapering, we are exclusively cloth diapering.  So sorry they add to your already large and in charge booty.  I think it’s cute.  Thanks for being a good sport.

I’m grateful you don’t cry very often.  The only time you really fuss is when you’re tired.

We still don’t have a set schedule with you + I can’t decide if I want to establish one.  You are VERY flexible + easy going.

Thank you so much for brightening my day every morning, noon, + night.

Mommy + Daddy LOVE you bunches

A { BLESSED } life

MY STORY BEGINS with a loving mother + a hardworking father. Mornings filled with praise + guidance, evenings spent at the dinner table recanting the day’s events, + nights filled with bedtime stories and kisses goodnight.

pink heart

IT CONTINUED with a childhood full of excitement, LOVE, family, + friends.
The people in my life inspiring, motivating, + pushing me to be the best ME that I could possibly be.

I made mistakes, I learned from them. I pushed myself + GREW. I accepted change + challenges and rejected hate + fear.
I GREW as a student. I GREW as a daughter. I made myself GROW as a person.

I thought to myself, “it can’t get any better than this”

I promised my HEART, I said “I do.” I loved + honored + cherished.

We changed for each other, we went on adventures, we fought, we made up, + we grew.
I held his hand and he held mine back +

I thought to myself, “it can’t get any better than this”

Our life was BLESSED with tiny hands + TINY FEET that filled our hearts with love.
Baby giggles + toothless smiles. More joy than ever imagined.

TWO tiny people who needed me as much as I needed them. A mother, a friend, a playmate, + TEACHER. A job too important to miss.

Decisions were made and a stay at home mommy I became to give them the life they DESERVE.

The search began to balance family + work while keeping them both at home.

MY STORY CONTINUES with a charming, spunky, + crazy neighbor who opened my eyes to so much.

I asked her for help, I confided my worries, and she shared in all of my JOYS.

She showed me her LOCKET + I thought more about it + decided to give it a try.

ORIGAMI OWL was the name + story telling was the game. So now I’m telling you MINE.

A HEART for the love of my family + friends, a TREE for all that I grew. TWO FEET for my boys + an APPLE for being their teacher. INFINITY for our love never ending + BLESSED so I’ll always remember.

You’ve heard my story now help me tell yours of your PASTS, your PRESENTS + FUTURES.

Now I think to myself, “it can’t get any better than this”

Sneaky Baking: How to Get Your Toddler to Eat Veggies

I’ve recently had trouble getting Austin to eat different veggies. I will usually resort to those veggie/fruit pouches to get him some vegetables in his diet. A little while ago I figured out that I can combine something he loves with something he isn’t too fond of. I made veggie quick bread! His love of carbs masked the fact that there was veggies in his snack. The first thing I made was butternut squash quick bread. It was SOOOOOO yummy. Unfortunately, I almost chopped off a finger in the process of making it. Whoops!

I give credit to Daily Garnish. I’ve been following her blog since Austin was born. Both our toddlers were born around the same time. She is a vegetarian chef/blogger. I get a lot of good ideas from her blog (parenting & food-wise).

Here is the link to the Butternut Squash Quick Bread recipe:

Today, while Austin and Justin were napping, I decided to put my ripe banana to good use. I decided to create a Banana Carrot Quick Bread. I looked up different quick bread recipes to see what was standard in them.

Here are the ingredients I used:

  • 3/4 C. vegetable oil
  • 1/4 C. honey
  • 1/2 C. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 C. flour (sifted with a fork)
  • 1 C. whole wheat flour (sifted with a fork)
  • 1/2 C. oatmeal
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1 + 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 C. mashed bananas (about 3 bananas)

I didn’t have 3 bananas, so I mashed 1 banana and squeezed in an apple and strawberry pouch.

  • 1 + 1/2 C. grated carrot (3 large)
  • 1/2 C. raisins

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease your muffin tins
2. Whisk together flour, oatmeal, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg in medium mixing bowl; set aside.
3. In a large mixing bowl whisk the oil, brown sugar, honey, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well.
4. Add 1/4 of the flour mixture at a time and stir in – alternating with the banana and ending with the flour mixture. Scrap down sides and just mix until incorporated; don’t over mix.
5. Add grated carrot and raisins. Fold into mixture until mixed throughout.
6. Spoon into mini or regular sized muffin tins.
7. Bake mini muffins 12 minutes and then check until a toothpick comes out clean. Regular muffins should take about 5 minutes longer. Ovens may vary the times a big. Just make sure to check your muffins. Cool for 15-20 minutes. Remove from pan and continue cooling on wire rack.
I had my best judge taste the muffins. I think I got the toddler stamp of approval!
